About Arlington Sunrise Rotary

A Friday-morning club with a 39-year record of showing up for Arlington. Chartered March 24, 1987, with an unprecedented 54 charter members.

Our story

Built on fellowship, fueled by service.

The Rotary Club of Arlington Sunrise was chartered in 1987 and immediately went looking for something big to do. We found it at J.W. Dunlop Park, where more than 2,500 volunteers built the Sunrise Creative Playground in five days in 1989. We rebuilt it again in 2005. That project set the tone for everything since: ambitious, community-wide, and hands-on.

Today our members display more than 1,000 U.S. flags across Arlington on patriotic holidays, award college scholarships to local seniors, support families during the holidays, send students to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and fund international projects from clean water to polio eradication.

Attendance and participation are a big part of being a Rotarian, and we make it easy to “make up” a missed meeting by visiting another club, joining a committee or board meeting, working a project, or attending a social. In addition to dues, small “fines” are levied at weekly meetings for various “infractions” and “accomplishments” (all in fun), and the proceeds go to local charities.

Guiding principles

What every Rotarian stands for.

The Four-Way Test

Of the things we think, say, or do:

  • Is it the truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary

To encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise, in particular:

  • The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service
  • High ethical standards in business and professions
  • The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life
  • The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace

Five Avenues of Service

  • Club Service makes our club strong
  • Vocational Service puts our expertise to work
  • Community Service improves life in Arlington
  • International Service builds peace and understanding
  • Youth Service develops the next generation of leaders
