The Arlington Sunrise Flag Program

Since 1998, we have flown the Stars and Stripes in Arlington neighborhoods on patriotic holidays. What began with 75 flags is now more than 1,000, and every subscription funds our work in the community.

How it works

$75 a year. Six holidays. Zero hassle.

Subscribe and a Sunrise Rotarian or one of our partner Boy Scout troops will place a full-size U.S. flag in your yard by about 8:00 a.m. on each flag holiday, then pick it up afterward. You never have to store, raise, or lower anything.

  • Memorial Day
  • Flag Day (June 14)
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Patriot Day (September 11)
  • Veterans Day

Since 2015 we leave flags up for several days on three holidays each year so neighborhoods can enjoy the display longer. Flags are not displayed if it is raining the morning of a holiday; we make it up the following Saturday. If your flag is missing on a holiday, call 817-633-1645.

Display schedule

When the flags go up and come down

Flags are delivered the morning of each holiday and picked up that evening, except on three holidays each year (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day) when the display is extended over several days. The dedicated Flag Program website always has the current season’s dates, service-area maps, and online sign-up.

Our Scout partners

The program has grown so much that we enlisted local Boy Scout troops to help. Troops 545, 615, and 934 place and retrieve flags each holiday and are paid for every new subscriber they bring in. Their share supports troop activities and community programs.

Flag etiquette

We take care of the flag. If a flag gets wet after it is displayed, we leave it out overnight to dry rather than roll it up damp, which would mildew and damage it. Extended displays on select holidays follow U.S. Flag Code guidance that a flag may remain up overnight when it produces a patriotic effect.

Service area

We would love to fly flags all over Arlington, but to make sure every flag gets placed on every holiday we keep routes concentrated in these six neighborhoods. Expand a neighborhood to see the streets we serve. Not on the list? Let us know and we will tell you when a route opens nearby.
